Next Weeks New Comics Preview
I’ve got slightly less next week than I did this week, and there’s also only one collection I’ve really got my eyes on. Here’s what I’m grabbing:
- American Vampire #26 - Start of a new, two-part story!
- Aquaman #8
- Captain America #10
- Daredevil #11 - Finale to Omega Effect
- The Flash #8
- I, Vampire #8 - Finale to Rise of the Vampires
- Justice League Dark #8 - Part 3 of Rise of the Vampires, also Milligan’s final issue
- Moon Knight #12 - Series finale
- Secret Avengers #26 - Start of Avengers VS X-Men Tie-in
- Spaceman #6
- Uncanny X-Men #11 - Start of Avengers VS X-Men Tie-in
And then the collection is Neil Gaiman’s Black Orchid, which is coming out just in time for the character’s inclusion into Justice League Dark next month when Lemire takes over. There’s also the nice reprint of Batman Knightfall Volume 1, which comes with a lot more material than the original volume did, so people wanting to read up on their Bane stories can check that out.
Ryley’s Pull List 3/28/12 - Vertigo and Image Comics
- American Vampire #25 - The end of Death Race is here! Travis Kidd’s road-raging battle with Skinner Sweet has been quite an exciting one, but in this issue it seems we’ll be getting a bit of the history of our current hero, and possibly his relation to Skinner. We’re also supposed to see the inclusion of Pearl and Henry, which should ground this arc with the rest of the American Vampire series and lead our way into the next big arc.
- Scalped #57 - The final arc of Scalped pushes on. The Rez seems a lot better, but we all know there’s still some loose ends to tie up, and it seems that Red Crow still isn’t quite done. The series continues to be nearly perfect even in it’s final months, and I’m simply anticipating how it’ll come to a complete close with issue #60
- Spaceman #5 - Azzarello and Risso’s new series continues, and I guarantee it’s not going to get any less crazy, or awesome for that matter, as we head forward. Another Spaceman is coming for Orson, but as we’ve seen in past issues he’s capable of taking care of himself. If this other Spaceman is as capable as Orson is, though, then we’re certainly in for a treat. But Orson knows what he’s trying to do is the right thing…
- The Unwritten #35.5 - One final .5 chapter before we head into our next arc, and this one will explore the Cabal itself and it’s reality manipulating ways. This will be sure to give us a little more info before we head into the story which shows us a world without stories. And boy does that sound frightening.
- The Walking Dead #95 - A Larger World continues as Rick and company are lead to a new community. This could be good for them, but at the same time I doubt that Rick will let his guard down for a second at any given time. Who is the leader of this other group, and do they have ulterior motives? Given how the series usually plays out I’ll have to guess the answer is yes. Or at least Rick will be assuming such.
DC Comics in March 2012
My singles in DC stay the same aside from the lack of Justice League, which I’m going to be trade-waiting now. I needed to make room for Batman Inc and Dial H!
- Action Comics #7
- Animal Man #7
- Aquaman #7
- Batman #7
- Batman and Robin #7
- Batwoman #7
- Demon Knights #7
- Frankenstein, Agent of SHADE #7
- Green Lantern #7
- I, Vampire #7
- Justice League Dark #7
- Swamp Thing #7
- Wonder Woman #7
By the way, I, Vampire and Justice League Dark start a crossover n this month. Here are the trades I might grab:
- Batman: Birth of the Demon
- Batman VS. The Black Glove Deluxe Edition (this, I believe, was delayed)
- I, Vampire
Now here are the Vertigo issues I’ll be grabbing:
- American Vampire #25
- Fables #115
- iZombie #23
- Scalped #57
- Spaceman #5
- Sweet Tooth #31
- The Unwritten #35-35.5
No collection from Vertigo, but with their four new series launching I’m going to try out the first issue of Saucer Country by Paul Cornell and see how I enjoy that.
Ryley’s Pull List 2/22/12 - Vertigo and Image Comics
- American Vampire #24 - The current arc continues as our villain stood revealed in the last issue as our old friend, Skinner Sweet. But just how is he still alive, and what’s he doing now that we’re in the 50’s? Whatever happens it’s sure to be a violently fun ride from Mr. Scott Snyder.
- Chew #24 - Ever since Tony Chu lost his job things have really not been looking up for anyone, including himself. Now as we head into the final parts of “Major League Chew” we’ll get a new meaning to the phrase “Death by Chocolate”, according to this issues solicitation. Well that can’t be good…
Top 5 Current Ongoing Non Marvel or DC Comics (Indie or Imprint):
- American Vampire
- Chew
- Scalped
- Sweet Tooth
- The Unwritten
Very Honorable Mentions (because they’re either too new or a limited series)
- Casanova: Avaritia
- Peter Panzerfaust
- Spaceman
Also, be sure to check out SAGA by Brian K Vaughan and Fiona Staples next month!

Week four of February! It’s my smallest week of the month yet (simply because I grabbed Peter Panzerfaust on a whim this week), but it’s a good one. Here’s what I’m grabbing:
- American Vampire #24
- Aquaman #6 - I believe this starts a new storyline
- Chew #24
- Fantastic Four #603
- The Flash #6
- I, Vampire #6
- Justice League Dark
- Secret Avengers #23
- Uncanny X-Force #22
- Venom #13.3
- Wolverine and the X-Men #6
So out of all that there’s really only one that’s a fair jumping on point. Flash might be a good one as well, though.
As for collected editions I recommend Mark Millar and Leinil Yu’s “Superior”, which collects all seven issues of the great mini-series into a single hardcover.
There is also a Batman VS Bane paperback which collects some of the conflicts between the characters. It seems like DC is working on giving us a Bane centric trade each month leading up to The Dark Knight Rises. This book this month, I think there’s a reprint of Venom next month, and then April, May and June see reprints of the three volumes of Knightfall. It’s an excellent way for fans who want to become more familiar with the character before the film to do just that.

Ryley’s Pull List 1/25/12 - Vertigo and Image Comics
- American Vampire #23
- The Unwritten #33.5
- The Walking Dead #93
All of these are mid-story arc, but I can say that EVERYONE needs to pick up American Vampire #22 to see this amazing new arc. Vampires, Greasers, and drag racing!
Next Weeks New Comics Preview
Final week of January 2012 brings a lot of nice stuff, but it’s a smaller week for me, with just 10 titles.
- American Vampire #23
- Aquaman #5 - New Story Arc
- Fantastic Four #602
- The Flash #5
- I, Vampire #5
- Justice League #5
- Justice League Dark #5
- Secret Avengers #21.1 - New Creative Team
- The Unwritten #33.5
- The Walking Dead #93 - New Story Arc
So there are a few jumping on points for new readers this week, but I’m going to shine focus on Secret Avengers, which is being taken over by Rick Remender and Gabriel Hardman starting with this issue. Given his track record, you can count on it being great.
There are also plenty of noteworthy collections that I’d love to be able to get, but that’s not exactly going to be possible for me at the moment:
- Batman and Robin: Dark Knight, White Knight
- Catwoman by Ed Brubaker volume 1
- Daredevil by Ed Brubaker and Michael Lark Ultimate Collection volume 1
- Hawkman by Geoff Johns Omnibus volume 1
- Red Skull Incarnate
- Resurrection Man volume 1
- Sweet Tooth volume 4, Endangered Species
Here’s next weeks full shipping list.

Next Weeks New Comics Preview
Skipped my weekly pull posts this week since I was on vacation until yesterday and it’s pointless to post them two days late (new followers, I usually post them on tuesday mornings), so here’s my weekly preview of what I’ll be grabbing NEXT Wednesday, as well as some other notable releases. (Also to new followers, I do one of these every Thursday or Friday, so this is on schedule)
So here are the new issues I’m grabbing next week:
- American Vampire #22 - New story arc!
- Aquaman #4
- Captain America #5 and #6 - End of one arc, beginning of a new one!
- The Flash #4
- I, Vampire #4
- Justice League Dark #4
- Kick-Ass 2 #6
- The Mighty Thor #9
- Secret Avengers #20
- Spaceman #3
- Unwritten #32.5
Cap is releasing two issues in one week, which is the second time I can remember a series doing that that I’ve collected (the last being Amazing Spider-Man during SHED), and I’ve dropped FF so no #13 this week because the art in the last issue was absolutely HORRIBLE. I love Hickman and I love his Fantastic Four stuff, but I’m sorry, I don’t want to pay $3 for Bobillo’s work (not sure I spelt his name right and don’t really care to find out).
Secret Avengers is added back on after I dropped it after Spencer’s run. I decided that since I’m going to be buying into it during Remender’s run I might as well pick up Ellis’ as well so I don’t have a random six issue gap between them all. Plus, Ellis’ issues are all very good so there’s not a loss anywhere (I was going to pick them up in trade before I got the singles anyway).
I’m not seeing any really noteworthy collections for this week, so that’s all. Here’s next weeks full shipping list.
RYLEY’S PULL LIST 12/14/2011 - VERTIGO AND IMAGE COMICS
- AMERICAN VAMPIRE #21 - Beast in the Cave ends here, so we get a bit more backstory on Skinner and everyone else. Meanwhile, next issue is the start of a pretty awesome looking new arc set in the 50’s, so new readers should look out for that one.
- THE UNWRITTEN #32 - War of the Words continues, and I can’t stress how awesome this arc is/will be. And I mean, look at that cover. Awesome.
- THE WALKING DEAD #92 - The group’s had a bit of downtime for a while now, and it finally looks like things are going to start getting kicked up again. Four of the original crew remain, and it really doesn’t look good for any of them. Plus, Michonne is looking mad on that cover, and you don’t want to mess with her.
