- Justice League Dark #9
Next Weeks New Comics Preview
I had 14 new issues this week, and next week isn’t much better with 13 new issues for me. Luckily there aren’t any collections I’m looking at grabbing, though, so that’s something less for me to worry about. Anyway, here are next weeks issues:
- Amazing Spider-Man #686
- Aquaman #9
- Batman Incorporated #1
- Captain America #12
- Chew #26 - New Story Arc!
- Fables #117
- Fantastic Four #606
- The Flash #9
- I Vampire #9
- Journey into Mystery #638
- Justice League Dark #9 - Jeff Lemire’s Debut Issue!
- Secret Avengers #27
- The Unwritten #37
So there’s a lot of cool stuff, and I’m especially excited for new developments at DC. Batman Inc and Lemire on JLD are definitely highlights for me!

Next Weeks New Comics Preview
Eleven more issues and a couple of collections for my haul next week! Chock full of all sorts of awesomeness, check out what I’ll be grabbing:
- Batman #9 - Night of the Owls OFFICIALLY Begins!
- Captain America #11 - New story arc!
- Demon Knights #9
- Frankenstein, Agent of SHADE #9 - Frankie seeks Animal Man in Lemire’s final issue on the series
- Green Lantern #9
- iZombie #25
- Journey into Mystery #637
- Punisher #11 - New story arc!
- Uncanny X-Force #25 - Oversized anniversary issue to start off “The Final Execution”
- The Walking Dead #97 - Something to Fear begins!
- Wolverine and the X-Men #10
And the two collections? Volume one of Snyder’s current run on Batman and the reprint of Moebius’ Silver Surfer: Parable. Plenty of stuff to love coming out of next week, and I’m totally looking forward to it all.
Ryley’s Pull List 5/2/12 - DC Comics and Vertigo
- Action Comics #9 - I’ve been patiently awaiting Morrison to revisit the various versions of Superman he created back in Final Crisis, so this is a pretty awesome time to be me. If you aren’t me, sorry, but you should be looking forward to this anyway. Also, try to be me. It’s nice.
- Animal Man #9 - I’m getting such strong Delano vibes from this issue, and that’s a great thing, because I believe Lemire is about to give us something Delano never really succeeded in. Buddy Baker in the Red in the same way Alec Holland visited the Green during Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing run. I cannot wait to read this arc. At all.
- Dial H #1 - Yeah this is going to be fantastic. China’s got some fantastic ideas in his head and I can’t wait to see how it all pans out, and this comic is going to expand the awesomeness that is my first week, also making it darker and stranger at the same time. Grab this.
- Swamp Thing #9 - Alec VS Abby! Something big will happen in this issue. I promise.
- Animal Man Volume 1: The Hunt - Yes, I own all these issues already, but I can’t help but want the collection so I can read it again sans ads and with nicer looking pages. Worth it.
- Sweet Tooth #33 - And more Lemire for me to gush over. This month he gives us a single issue story about some of the present character before we head into the next, seemingly climactic, storyline.
From Animal Man Annual #1 by Timothy Green
Ryley’s Pull List 4/25/12 - DC Comics and Vertigo
- Aquaman #8 - Last issue brought a rather interesting and awesome beginning to this new arc on Aquaman, and I can’t wait to see where it’ll go. It looks like Johns has some long term plans for this character, much like he did for Green Lantern, so what we’re seeing now are just the seeds for something much greater.
- The Flash #8 - The Flash heads right into the Speed Force itself to try and fix everything he’s done during this series! In there he’ll meet Turbine, who is another character able to tap into the Speed Force, and he might have something to do with what’s been going on. Plus, Gorilla Grodd?
- I, Vampire #8 - Concluding the crossover between this series and JLD, this issue is sure to bring some interesting revelations that will effect how this series moves forward. As one of the New 52’s most surprising hits I’m excited to see what’ll come next.
- Justice League Dark #8 - This issue is part three of the four part crossover that ends in the previously mentioned I, Vampire #8, but it’s also a notable issue itself as it marks Peter Milligan’s final issue on the series before Animal Man scribe Jeff Lemire takes over. Can’t wait to see that come next month!
- American Vampire #26 - We take a break from the main arcs on AV to revisit a character from “Ghost War”; Calvin Poole. Calvin’s become an American Vampire himself, so it’s going to be interesting to see how things have been going for him. Plus, the art from Roger Cruz looks fantastic.
- Spaceman #6 - Azzarello and Risso’s current mini-series continues as the Spaceman bounty hunter is finally going to meet up with Orson. It’s been a fantastic series thus far, and as we go into the second half I’m sure it’ll just get better from here.
Ryley’s Pull List 4/18/12 - DC, Vertigo, and Image Comics
- Batman #8 - Night of the Owls begins in this issue, as Snyder gives a sort of prologue chapter to the whole event. As well as the event seeing it’s beginning, the issue also brings the first part of the new ongoing backup feature with art by American Vampire collaborator, Rafael Albuquerque. This will be one of this weeks best issues.
- Wonder Woman #8 - Wonder Woman descends into Hell, and it’s going to be awesome. She leaves armed with all kinds of armor and weapons (including Cupid’s pistols of love), which obviously means we’ll be getting tons of Wonderful action (capitalization = pun). Don’t miss this one.
- Fables #116 - We continue the journey into Toyland, and it’s sure to turn sinister quickly. I mean, nothing in Fables is ever nice, so why would you expect a bunch of toys to be nice? Anyway, this’ll be good stuff. The storyline has been solid so far, so I look forward to seeing how it progresses.
- The Walking Dead #96 - For trade collectors, know that this issue will be not only the last part of volume 16, but also the last issue collected in the second compendium. That said, I have to believe that this issue will end with something pretty startling. Plus, it leads into the storyline that’ll take us to issue #100, which looks to be one of the bloodiest endeavors Rick and his crew have been through yet.
Next Week’s New Comics Preview
This week had sixteen issues for me, but next week’s a bit smaller, but still brings a bunch of collections I’d like to grab. Here’s what I’m getting:
- Amazing Spider-Man #684 (Part 3 of Ends of the Earth)
- Batman #8 (Prelude to Night of the Owls)
- Fables #116
- Incredible Hulk #7 (Finale to Hulk VS Banner)
- Invincible Iron Man #515
- Punisher #10 (Part 2 of Omega Effect)
- Thunderbolts #173
- Uncanny X-Force #24 (Phil Noto penned aftermath to “Otherworld”; UXF VS AoA Ice Man)
- Venom #16
- The Walking Dead #96 (Finale to A Larger World)
- Wolverine and the X-Men #9 (Avengers VS X-Men tie-in)
- Wonder Woman #8
So there’s sure to be a lot of great stuff among next weeks lot. Here’s some collections to look out for:
- Batman: Venom - This tale features Bruce taking the Venom that his foe Bane will later use in order to increase his ow n strength after an event happens that shows him he might not be strong enough to save everyone. The Venom has a side-effect similar to steroids, but much more extreme, and Bruce locks himself up for months as a form of Detox. It’s a classic Batman story that kind of leads into Bane’s stuff, so there’s no wonder they’re re-releasing it a few months before the upcoming film.
- Fear Agent Volume 6: Out of Step - The final volume of Rick Remender’s latest creator owned series. I’ve just gotten the previous five so I can’t say much here, but I love Remender and look forward to reading this when I finish everything else I’ve got.
- Gantz 22 - This isn’t really one to look out for, just one I need to pick up. But if you like violent sci-fi stuff Gantz might be worth checking out.
- Red Hulk: Hulk of Arabia - Jeff Parker’s Hulk series has been one of the best on the stands ever since he took over from Jeph Loeb. He’s really turned the character of the Red Hulk into a relatable on, and not just a violent monster like you’d assume he is. He’s also introduced a whole gallery of new rogues for him, and in this volume a lot of what’s come before comes to a head as Red Hulk faces several threats. I can’t wait to read this one, and anyone who hasn’t checked out Parker’s Hulk should really do so.
Here’s next week’s full shipping list
Ryley’s Pull List 4/11/12 - DC Comics
- Batman and Robin #8 - This will be the last issue of Batman and Robin which I’ll be buying monthly because I want to make room on my pull list for the upcoming volume of Batman Incorporated, but that’s not to say this is a bad series at all. In fact, Peter Tomasi has been doing a great job writing the new Dynamic Duo in this new series. This issue will end the first story arc in which Batman and Robin go up against NoBody, who is a character from Bruce’s distant past. This issue is sure to bring an exciting conclusion to this story.
- Batman Incorporated, Deluxe Edition Hardcover Volume 1 - The hardcover collection of Grant Morrison’s most recent Batman story is finally here! Collecting issue #1-8 and the Leviathan Strikes! One-Shot, this volume is the perfect place for readers to catch up on Morrison’s Batman epic before it continues next month with the first issue of a new Batman Incorporated series. There’s plenty of awesomeness to be had in this book, so grab it!
- Batwoman #8 - Amy Reeder’s arc on Batwoman continues as we follow the lives of six different characters in vignettes that will all connect into one greater story. What’s coming in Kate Kane’s life now that she’s joined with the DEO?
- Demon Knights #8 - This month we take a little break from the main story to see how Madame Xanadu became both Jason Blood’s and Etrigan’s lover. For whatever reason, I never even thought to wonder how that happened, but I’m more than excited to read the story as this is certainly the most interesting love triangle in comics right now.
- Frankenstein, Agent of SHADE #8 - After the events of the previous arc, Frankenstein and his Bride must go across Europe to hunt down their monstrous children. This is sure to lead to a lot of crazy action, and some nice interaction between Frankie and his estranged wife. We’ve not seen much about what happened between them in the past, so hopefully this issue will shed some light on the matter.
- Green Lantern #8 - The Secret of the Indigo Tribe continues, and reportedly in this issue we’ll learn just why Indigo-1 is so obsessed with the former Green Lantern Abin Sur. As the Indigo Tribe has been the most curious group in the entirety of Johns’ Green Lantern run, it’s rather exciting to finally find out everything about them. All that’s left now? What’s Larfleeze’s Oath?!
Next Weeks New Comics Preview
So… next week is huge for me. Here’re all the new issues I’ll be nabbing:
- Avenging Spider-Man #6 (Omega Effect Begins!)
- Batman and Robin #8 (First Arc Ends!)
- Demon Knights #8
- Fantastic Four #605 (Fantastic Four of the year 3030!)
- Frankenstein, Agent of SHADE #8
- Green Lantern #8
- Journey into Mystery #636 (Terrorism Myth Ends!)
- Peter Panzerfaust #3
- Saga #2
- Saucer Country #2
- Secret Avengers #25 (Remender’s First Arc Ends!)
- Uncanny X-Men #10 (AVX Tie Ins Begin!)
- Unwritten #36 (World Without Stories! The next arc begins!)
- Winter Soldier #4
- Wolverine #304 (Jason Aaron’s Final Issue!)
So there are a lot of pretty big things happening, without a doubt. Here are the collections I want to pick up. However, mind you that I’m not grabbing them all when they come out. I’ll be ordering on Amazon, but so far the only one I have preordered is the first one:
- Batman Incorporated Deluxe Edition Hardcover
- PunisherMAX: Homeless Hardcover
- Severed Hardcover
- Strange Talent of Luthor Strode TPB
- I Vampire TPB
I’ve already read the first two, but I must have the collections, and then Severed is the only Snyder thing I haven’t read. I kept hearing greatness about Luthor Strode so I have to grab that, and then since I’ve been dearly loving I Vampire in the New 52 I’ve been planning on grabbing this paperback collection of the classic tales.
Animal Man #11, Steve Pugh
