Ryley’s Pull List 1/18/12 - Marvel Comics

  • THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #678- Spidey gets a look at the not too distant future, and as you can tell by seeing the cover up there, it’s not looking too pretty. I’ll assume this leads into the upcoming Spidey event starting in a couple of months, just like #676 did (well, as far as introducing Doc Ock’s plot and bringing his Secret Six together). Should be a fine place for new readers.
  • DAREDEVIL #8 - Part two of the crossover with Spider-Man! New readers should jump on with next issue, but if you’ve been reading so far you know how awesome this should be. Plus, guest art by KANO.
  • THE INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #512 - This arc really seems like a culmination of the ingredients that Fraction’s been putting forth through his whole run on the series. The Mandarin is in the foreground, he’s working with Stane, and we also have the Hammer girls. So I guess you can assume things aren’t going to go too nicely for Tony. If you were a fan of the earlier parts of Fractions series, then this is the arc you’ve been waiting for.
  • MOON KNIGHT #9 - First, look at the awesomeness that is that cover. Now, if you aren’t already buying this title go ahead and fix that. This issue is supposed to be pretty important as we have Marc going head to head with the recently revealed “Kingpin of LA”. Now just to see how this little tussle ends… and where will it take Marc?
  • THUNDERBOLTS #169 - The T-bolts continue their merry stroll through time, this time ending up in the medieval period to see themselves mixed up with the Black Knight. Should prove fun, just like the rest of the time travel arcs, but what I’m really interested in is seeing the book more towards the impending battle between the current team, and the one from the past.
  • UNCANNY X-FORCE #20 - The new arc starts here! Last issue was a sort of lead in to this… or at leas the last few pages were. Fantomex will stand on trial for what he’s done, and he’ll have to face the Captain Britain Corps because of it. Meanwhile the rest of the team has their own troubles to deal with. If you haven’t been reading UXF yet… come on now, this is a great jumping on point.
  • UNCANNY X-MEN #5 - Another jumping on point! The X-Men are about to head to a new area of the Marvel Universe called Tabula Rasa! What is it, and why is Psylocke stabbing a giant bat? Well, I guess you’ll have to buy this issue to find out.
  • VENOM #12 - Venom’s road trip with Jack-O-Lantern brings them to Las Vegas, which in turn brings us to the conclusion of this arc and the beginning of next months Venom event! Also, Toxin is here, and it’s going to be awesome. The issue as a whole will be awesome. You can quote me on that.

CURRENTLY READING: INVINCIBLE IRON MAN HC VOL 1
I’ve been reading Matt Fraction’s Invincible Iron man since issue #8 when the “Worlds Most Wanted” arc started, but I’ve never actually read the first seven issues, so on top of being able to reread Worlds Most Wanted, I’m also getting to see the beginning of this series for the first time!
However, I am reading this at the same time as I’m reading… something else. More on that when I finish (or catch up, rather).

RYLEY’S PULL LIST 11/23/11 - MARVEL COMICS

  • FANTASTIC FOUR #600 - Hickman brings back the Fantastic Four for their 600th anniversary issue, which brings us a giant sized story that will start the arc that promises to tie up all the plots that he’s been sewing since issue #570. It’s definitely going to be the biggest book of the week, and it’s sure to make a big splash in the Marvel Universe as we push ahead into 2012’s big events.
  • INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #510 - Iron Man is finally out of the Fear Itself tie ins, and the series is heading into a pretty big and important story. The Mandarin is back, Ezekiel Stane is supposed to be coming back, and Tony’s going to have to deal with both of them in what is an arc that I’ve been looking forward to for quite a while.
  • THE MIGHTY THOR #8 - Thor is dead and Tanarus is the new god of thunder. Who exactly is Tanarus anyway? Not much more I can say here but to read to find out.
  • WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #2 - I loved issue #1 of this new series, and I’m looking forward to some high octane action and laughs with the second issue. The school is in some trouble now that Krakoa has all of a sudden erupted from beneath them, and it’s up to Wolverine and his faculty to take care of this mess.

WHAT’S COMING IN RYLEY’S MAIL?

  • GHOST RIDER OMNIBUS BY JASON AARON - I’ve never read Ghost Rider before. In fact, the only exposure to the character I really have is from the Nicholas Cage movie, so… yeah. Anyway, I’m always up for reading new characters, and since this is by one of my favorite writers it just seems like something I needed to have regardless. I’ve seen mixed reviews of the volume, but something tells me I’ll be on the positive side.
  • INVINCIBLE IRON MAN HC VOL 1 - Even though I love the hell out of Matt Fraction’s Invincible Iron Man series, and I have been reading it for quite a long while, I’ve actually never read the first seven issues. Seeing as the upcoming arc looks to be revisiting characters and story lines from that first arc I figure I better read it sooner than later, and what better way than in a hardcover that also collects twelve issues I HAVE already read? No worries though, as I got this for about $12, which is actually less than if I just bought the trade for the first arc. That’s pretty damn awesome in my book. Plus I have an easy way to reread this Worlds Most Wanted arc, which I’ve been wanting to do for a while now.

The Avengers Trailer!

My life is complete.

So I’m in the library meaning I can’t listen to the trailer… but it was cool nonetheless. Also, it seems that most of what was leaked from the sets was in here, so I’m betting not much else gets leaked before the film is released.
